Gotthard Base Tunnel ......

A route through the mountain – the longest ever made. The first tunnel under the Gotthard was finished in 1882, linking Germany, Switzerland and Italy and was a record 15 kilometres long. Just over a century later, history has repeated itself. On October 15, 2010, the last breakthrough was made in the new rail tunnel, making the Gotthard the scene of a record once again.
